Terms and conditions of RRING Membership

For individuals:

You understand and agree that you have committed to a contract. And you agree to membership fees payable by you at the rate offered at the purchase time for a period of 12 months’ membership of RRING.

While RRING is being registered as a legal entity – the International Consortium of Research Staff Associations, which is currently registered in Ireland as a Not For Profit Company (with an Irish bank account), has agree to hold the Membership fees at no cost. As soon as RRING is officially registered (also as an Irish not for profit company), these funds will be transferred to RRING. Thus, the laws of Ireland govern these Membership Terms and Conditions.

You understand that should you cancel your membership no refund will be provided (except in the case of changed Membership Terms and Conditions – see below).

Your Membership is non-transferable.

When accessing and using the RRING community network platform and its services, you must comply with directions, instructions or protocols provided.

You are free to share RRING open access content but should acknowledge RRING’s copyright.

In the same way, for content shared by members, we also respect the intellectual property rights of others, and require that you do the same. While you are free to request us to share material you believe relevant to RRING members, we do, however, reserve the right to refuse to post material that we believe is not fully aligned with RRING’s principles.

We may, in our discretion, immediately restrict, suspend or terminate your membership if we consider you to be in breach of these Membership Terms or applicable law.

We may change these Membership Terms and Conditions from time to time, but we will notify members before doing so. You will be given the opportunity to cancel your subscription with a pro-rata refund (based on time remaining in your subscription) if you do not want to accept the changes. If you do not opt out in this way, your continued subscription to and use of the Site will be an acceptance of the updated Membership Terms.

For organizations:

You understand and agree that your organization has committed to a contract. And you agree to membership fees payable by your organization at the rate offered at the purchase time for a period of 12 months’ membership of RRING.

Registered Organisations have no obligations to the network for the first year (beyond following the general Membership Terms and Conditions). In accepting these Membership Terms and Conditions you confirm that you have the authority to commit your organization to membership. Your Membership will entitle six members of your organisation to free membership of RRING. Organizations may also negotiate specific conditions with RRING. Data Use and Privacy Policy

This Policy sets out the basis on which any personal data which we collect from you, or that you provide to us, or that is provided to us by a third party, will be processed by us. In this Policy, the term personal data means data relating to an individual who is or can be identified either from the data or from the data in conjunction with other information that is in, or is likely to come into, our possession, and includes personal data as described in Data Protection Legislation (as defined below).

Providing personal data to RRING, and accepting the terms of this Policy, indicates that the user has reviewed this Policy and has agreed to be bound by it. We will handle your personal data in accordance with Data Protection Legislation. Data Protection Legislation means the Data Protection Acts 1988 to 2018 and Directive 95/46/EC, any other applicable law or regulation relating to the processing of personal data and to privacy (including the E-Privacy Directive and the European Communities (Electronic Communications Networks and Services) (Privacy and Electronic Communications) Regulations 2011), as such legislation shall be amended, revised or replaced from time to time, including by operation of the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR) (and laws implementing or supplementing the GDPR or the E-Privacy Regulations).

WHAT INFORMATION DO WE GATHER FROM YOU?

The information that we collect about you, is the information provided, in the membership sign-up form or entered by you in your RRING profile. We endeavour to keep all personal data that you provide to us accurate and up-to-date. As such, you must tell us about any changes to such information as soon as possible. You can do this by contacting us using the contact details on the RRING website.

HOW WILL WE USE THE INFORMATION WE GATHER?

We will use the information we collect from you to:

  • Fulfil our legal, regulatory and risk management obligations
  • Respond to your enquiry or complaint
  • Provide information requested by you
  • Manage and administer our relationship with you or with an entity (for example, a university) with which you are associated in a manner relevant to our legitimate interests (for example, the administration of your RRING membership)
  • Understand how visitors interact with our Websites
  • Produce statistics to improve and develop our Website and Service
  • Issue invitations to members for RRING activities or publicise information about RRING activities.

We will not sell data to third parties and data will only be transferred outside RRING with your express consent (e.g. when you consent to your data being made public on the RRING website).

WHAT RIGHTS DO YOU HAVE?

As a data subject, you have the following rights under the Data Protection Legislation:

  • the right of access to personal data relating to you;
  • the right to correct any mistakes in your personal data;
  • the right to ask us to stop contacting you with direct marketing;
  • rights in relation to automated decision taking;
  • the right to restrict or prevent your personal data being processed;
  • the right to have your personal data ported to another data controller;
  • the right to erasure; and
  • the right to complain to the Data Protection Controller if you believe we have not handled your personal data in accordance with the Data Protection Legislation.
