Fundació Universitària Balmes, established on January 9, 1985, is the owner and legal entity of the University of Vic - Central University of Catalonia (UVIC-UCC). From its early beginning, UVic-UCC has promoted academic quality and excellent research and innovation activities. The University nurtures a strong commitment to Catalonia and Spain as well as to its regional (Central Catalonia) development, by promoting technological innovation, sustainability and strong cooperation with the world of entrepreneurship. UVIC-UCC is a dynamic institution with over 7,000 students and over 500 academic and research staff operating in a vibrant culture of research excellence. The Technology Centre for Biodiversity, Ecology, and Environmental and Food Technologies (BETA), as part of UVIC-UCC, aims to improve competitiveness and technological development in companies and in the society through R+D+I project at local, state or International level by transferring innovative and competitive technology and knowledge with
sustainable criteria to the food, waste and environment sectors, with a special focus on agri-food industry and rural areas. BETA is a multidisciplinary team with more than 40 young and senior researchers working on 5 main research areas: Environmental Technologies; Soil and Nutrient Management; Applied Ecology and Global Change; Sustainability and Circular Economy, and Governance
In the last 5 years, BETA Tech Centre has been involved in several competitive R+D+I project funded by the European Commission (H2020, Interreg MED, Interreg POCTEFA, LIFE, ENIMED), the Spanish national and regional Governments, Operational Groups, international cooperation entities, Transfer of knowledge agreements with enterprises etc. UVIC, and more specifically, CT BETA facilities include more than 1000 m2 of laboratories and 200 m2 of pilot plants related with environmental technologies and agri-food industry. BETA has excellent facilities and state-of-the art equipment to implement R&D projects.
